CRPF Guard Thwarts Militants Attack Bid on Srinagar Camp, Jawan Dead in Gunbattle
An attempt by militants to strike a CRPF camp was foiled early on Monday in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar. The militants have now taken shelter in a house which has been cordoned off by the CRPF.

Srinagar: An attempt by militants to strike a CRPF camp was foiled early on Monday in Karan Nagar area of the city. One CRPF jawan has been killed in the ensuing gunfight with militants in Srinagar.

"The sentry at the camp noticed two suspicious persons at around 4.30 am, carrying backpacks and weapons. He challenged them and opened fire as well," a spokesman of the CRPF said.

The militants fled from the spot, the spokesman said. They have taken shelter in a house which has been cordoned off by the CRPF.

A gunfight broke out between security forces and the militants. A CRPF jawan was injured in the exchange of fire in the heart of the city, officials said.

The CRPF DG has briefed Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the situation.

The incident comes two days after Jaish-e-Mohammad militants attacked an Army camp in Sunjwan area of Jammu, killing six people including five soldiers.
