CHENNAI: Excited young women in their graduation robes lined up to receive their hard-earned degrees, at the 24th Graduation Day of the Chevalier T Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, here on Monday.MM Rajendran, IAS, former Governor of Odisha and former Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, graced the occasion and presented the graduates with their diplomas. Addressing the students, he said that they were the future of the country and that it was on their shoulders that the country will have to march forward. He also pointed out how in India only about 12 per cent of the college going group received higher education much less than the world average of 13.5 per cent. Students who received university ranks in their respective courses were awarded cash prizes. First rank holders, namely A Eucharista of MA English, D Zeebathunnisa of BSc Physics and S Sahira of BSc Computer Science in the Foundation Course Urdu received their awards. Managing Trustee and Correspondent of the college, L Palamalai IAS and Principal of the college, Dr Hanifa Ghosh were also present. Scores of proud parents witnessed their children graduating from both PG and UG courses.
