Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar was acquitted in an extortion case by a special MCOCA court in Thane. It was alleged that Kaskar had extorted Rs 3 crore rupees from a construction firm in Mumbai dating back to 2017. It was a 38-acre land in north Mumbai’s Gorai area.
According to news agency PTI, special MCOCA judge Amit M Shete, in his order on Wednesday, said Kaskar was given the benefit of the doubt and acquitted as the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against him.
Kaskar was booked by Thane Police under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act as well as Indian Penal Code sections 384 (extortion), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 387 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) as part of a case registered at Thane Nagar police station on October 3, 2017.
Defence counsels Poonit Mahimkar and MZG Sheikh contested the case and punched holes in the prosecution’s case.
After hearing both sides, the court held the charges against Kaskar had not been proven and acquitted him.
