A family of five was found dead inside an abandoned car in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district in a suspected suicide pact, the police said on Thursday. The car was found parked along the Trichy-Karaikudi National Highway.
The locals spotted the car with bodies inside and alerted the cops. The police suspect that the family consumed poison and locked themselves in the car during the suicide attempt.
The family members were residents of Salem which is nearly 200 km from the Pudukkottai district where their bodies were found. The victims were identified as Manikandan, a 50-year-old businessman, his wife Nithya, mother Saroja, and their two children.
Although the initial probe suggested that victims had consumed poison, the exact cause of their death will be confirmed following an autopsy at Pudukkottai Government Medical College Hospital.
The police also recovered a note from the car. They are probing whether the family was under financial stress from the money lenders, which may have prompted their move. Manikandan was into the metal trading business.
