New Delhi: Saqib Saleem was noticed in 'Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge', but his big break has come with director Ashima Chibber's 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'. Saqib is playing the character of Sameer in the film who sneaks out with his father's old car to impress his girlfriend, but very soon he finds himself in trouble when the car gets stolen.
Rhea Chakraborty will be seen as Jasleen, Sameer's love interest, while Ram Kapoor is playing the role of Sameer's flamboyant father.
Ram Kapoor relates to his character as he had a similar experience in his life, "My dad's first car was a Maruti. I actually stole the car once and had an accident. It was just after a few months it had come. The movie has actually brought back my teenage memories."
Ashima Chibber says she found her career in films by a stroke of serendipity. Being the daughter of professor parents, the academic field was viewed as a natural choice for the Hyderabad girl until she took up a job in a cinema hall.
"I completed my MA and went to the UK to pursue a course there. I was a good student. During the same time, I took up a job in a cinema hall. It was then when my interest in films grew. I got influenced towards film world," Ashima told PTI in an interview.
She added, "I got an offer from YRF to direct this film 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'. I quite liked the script and accepted the offer. I started working on the project and wrote the screenplay."
Rhea Chakraborty had tried her luck for 'Ban Baaja Baaraat' as well, "I had auditioned for 'Band Baaja Baaraat' but did not get selected. I was feeling bad, was upset. But I think certain films are meant by destiny. And that film was not meant for me. May be the makers felt I did not fit the bill as I was just 17-year-old, so it's ok."
The promos of the film have created a good buzz and thus the makers would be hoping for a good show on the commercial front.
