PUDUCHERRY: It was a heart-rending sight to see a father carrying his dead three-year-old daughter close to his chest and running from pillar to post, for almost two hours, after the government hospital authorities declared her dead.A distressed Selvakumar held Deepika’s lifeless body close to his chest while making enquiries with the hospital staff, later talking to police and the welfare minister Rajavelu, who also came to the hospital.Resident Medical Officer Dr A Selvaraj explained to the minister about the treatment given to the child with the prescriptions in presence of mediapersons and members of the public.None could console Deepika’s grandmother, , who had now lost two of her girls. She fainted after hearing the news of her grand daughter’s death. The utter helplessness and the futility of fighting a system seemed to deter Selvakumar from enquiring any further.
