HAVERI: Thirteen people, including women and children, were badly affected by Gastroenteritis by consuming polluted water at Horakeri localities in Motebennur village in Byagdi taluk here on Wednesday.The gram panchayat is supplying drinking water through bore wells. But recently these water supply pipe lines have been laid beneath the drainages.When the pipe lines and pipe joints were broken the drinking water got mixed with polluted water.Unknowingly, several people including Praksh Yali, Shila Savanur, Chinappa Kengonda, Laxman Jagatap, Jayamma and Deepa Kuri and Mahantesh Hombardi consumed the polluted water.All thirteen people have been admitted to Motebennur Community Health Centre.Later Praksh Yali, Shila Savanur, Chinappa Kengonda and Laxman Jagatap were shifted to a district hospital.Taluk Health Officer Dr Basavaraj Olekar, after visiting the spot said, “We have collected the polluted water from Horakeri locality pipe lines and sent it to the laboratories for testing.” Public should avoid panic as all the patients have been treated. He suggested the residents to use half boiled water for drinking.24-hour Control RoomHealth department has opened a 24-hour emergency unit in Motebennur under the supervision of Dr B R Lamani and necessary staff and medicines have been provided, he added.Grama panchayat president Veerayya Hiremath has instructed the panchayat development officials to shift the drinking water pipe lines immediately and provide safe drinking water to the villagers.
