General Hospital vying for laurels

If all goes well, chances are high for the Ernakulam General Hospital to be adjudged one of India’s best hospitals by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry this month.

Ernakulam District medical officer General Hospital Superintendent Junaidh Rahman said he would be flying to Delhi on August 8 to present a slide show on the salient features of the hospital which has  already impressed the FICCI.

“An independent agency had come here and surveyed the special features at our hospital. We are one of the three hospitals across the country to be selected for the FICCI Health Care Excellence Award-2012.”

The hospital had applied for the award based on the innovations it had made in technology and proper treatment and care being provided to its patients.

“We take special pains to make the patients and even the by-standers comfortable. We also have a modern kitchen and a dietary unit. Also, our newly-constructed OP block, and other hi-fi infrastructural developments prompted us to apply,” he added. The Hospital Development Society will be funding Junaid Rahman’s trip to Delhi.

Former Supreme Court Chief Justice R C Lahoti will chair the three-member jury who will decide the awards.

The awards will be handed over to the winner at the FICCI Heal-2012 programme in New Delhi.
