Mumbai: At least two persons among the 100 held guilty by a designated TADA court for their involvement in the 1993 bomb blasts have urged for leniency in punishment since they wish to get married.
Shoib Ghansar and Bashir Gani have pleaded for leniency saying their lovers waited for 14 years to get married to them.
"Have mercy on me, I want to get married", Bashir Ahmed Usman Ghani Khairulla, who was convicted on December 4 on the charge of throwing hand grenades at a fishermen colony resulting in death of three persons, told the court.
Bashir said his ladylove was a teacher and had waited for 14 years to marry him. Their marriage was to be held in 1993 but the demolition of Babri Masjid and subsequent Mumbai bomb blasts led to his arrest, he said.
"I am quite serious about marrying her but that would be possible only if the court gives me less punishment and release me," he said
Another convict Mohammed Shoib Ghansar had a similar story. He fell in love with the daughter of another convict in the case and said he wanted to marry her.
The court has held 100 persons guilty of their role in the 1993 bomb blast case. It will hear arguments on the quantum of sentence before declaring the extent of punishment.
