CHENNAI: A division bench of the Madras High Court has upheld an order of the Principal Family Court dissolving the marriage between Mandolin U Srinivas and U Sree. The reputed Mandolin player had married Sree at Tirupathi on May 27, 1994 as per the customary rites and ceremonies prevalent in Telugu community. They have a son. However, alleging that he was subjected to mental cruelty by Sree and that he was threatened by her father, an IAS officer attached to the Vigilance Department in the Andhra Pradesh government, Srinivas approached the family court, which on December 22, 2009 granted the divorce, with a direction to him to pay a permanent alimony of Rs 5 lakh each to Sree and their son. Challenging this order, Sree moved the High Court. The bench rejected her plea noting that it would be difficult for them to begin a new life.
