New Delhi: Spain trounced India 5-2 in a make or break Pool B game for both sides at the Hockey World Cup on Thursday.
Spain, who led 2-0 at halftime, added three goals in the second half to brush aside their defeat to Pakistan in their previous encounter.
India could not get on the scoreboard in the first half but came back strongly in the second through goals from a Sandeep Singh penalty corner and another four minutes later.
India lie at fourth in the Pool A standings and are ahead of Pakistan on goal difference, despite losing two out of three matches.
Earlier, Spain had scored two goals in the first half with Albert Sala finding the back of the net in the 19th minute.
At the stroke of halftime Spain doubled the lead. The Indian defence was caught napping as Pol Amat passed the ball to Fabregas who took full advantage by deflecting the ball into the net.
