ROURKELA: A week after the daring daylight heist at Jarda SBI branch under Bonai sub-division, the Rourkela police on Tuesday busted an inter-state dacoity gang and recovered fire arms and a part of the booty from their possession.Police said special investigating teams nabbed six criminals from different locations. The seizures include a Mauser gun, one pistol, two country-made pistols, eight rounds of live ammunitions, two motor-bikes and one car used in various crimes along with Rs 2.59 lakh and 50 grams gold looted from the Jarda branch. Sources said the armed criminals raided SBI’s Jarda branch on June 6 and decamped with Rs 5.45 lakh and 300 grams of gold ornaments.Just 30 minutes before this incident, the criminals had made an abortive bid to loot the nearby Gochhara branch of SBI in adjacent Sambalpur district and critically injured a bank staff. Rourkela SP Himanshu Lal informed mediapersons that the mastermind of the gang was an MPhil degree holder Tripurari Pradhan of Sambalpur district who worked as a lecturer in a college in Kuchinda sub-division. Pradhan had designed similar loots earlier. So far, police have managed to establish their involvement in 12 cases of murder, dacoity, robbery, house burglary and extortion in Sundargarh district along with six separate crimes committed in Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur districts. The other five members have been identified as Suraj Prakash Ojha and Binaya Singh, both natives of Bihar, Sagar Patra, Rakesh Sahu and Dilip Keshari alias Muna of Bonai sub-division. All are aged between 25 and 30 years.
