PALAKKAD: The Irrigation Department will provide land to the Kerala Film Development Corporation (KFDC) in a month for the proposed mini film city at Ottapalam. Speaking to Express, KFDC chairman Sabu Cherian said that the Irrigation Department has agreed to transfer 4.25 acres of land at Kanniampuram to the KFDC at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. “`1 crore has been set aside in the state budget this year for the project. It is proposed to set up a police station, jail and an office, among other things, on trolleys so that they can be dismantled and converted into houses and rooms. Shoestring-budget producers who cannot afford lavish sets can use the facilities. Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar had also expressed interest and that the funds of the Tourism Department can be used for the venture,” said Cherian. M Hamsa MLA, who had taken the initiative to set up the film city, said that many traditional houses in the Ottapalam region were constantly being used for film shootings. The film city’s recording, editing and dubbing studio and boarding facilities will be a good back-up for artistes and technicians. District Collector Ali Asghar Pasha has agreed to call a meeting of all the departments concerned to work out the lease agreements, fix the land value and speed up the transfer process.
