THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The IT@School, through a jumbo exercise in imparting animation movie-making training to students, is eyeing the Guinness Book of World Records. Buoyed by the success of the training programme conducted in May, the IT@School has decided to hold training classes in 349 centres in the state simultaneously during the Onam vacation. The training programme, which will start from September 5, will be held for four days. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb will inagurate the programme at the IT@School District Resource Centre in Malappuram. So far, 10,069 students have registered for the programme. In a statement here, Executive Director K Anvar Sadath said that IT@School had already registered with the Guinness Book of World Records as it might be the first instance when such a large number of students was being trained in animation simultaneously. The training module has been so scheduled as to enable the student to get a glance on each of the segments of animation movie-making, including zeroing in on a story, creating a story board, drawing the cartoon characters, animating them, giving them sound and music and so on. In May last, using the benefits of Edusat video-conferencing facility, 1,586 students were imparted training in animation movie-making using free software. Out of them, around 300 students were given follow-up training too. The teachers, who received training in animation, have been picked up for the massive exercise this time as trainers. To ensure quality training, eight video modules have been specifically created for the purpose. Ktoon, a free software, is being used mostly for the exercise though Jib-imaging software, open shot video editor, audacity and such packages would also be used. All these have been included in the operating system handed out to teachers and schools for the training programme. “The animation movies, created by the children, could be telecast in ViCTERS channel. ‘‘We are thinking of including animation movie making as a module in the ICT textbook in Standard X , taking into account the response we will get to the training programme,” said Anvar Sadath. At least four students from each government-aided schools in the state would be part of the animation training.
