Kanimozhi arrested only to prove media right: MK

CHENNAI: DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi has accused the CBI of arresting his daughter Kanimozhi only to prove media reports right. The octogen­arian said the MP was sufferin­g in Tihar Jail and that her imprisonment was ‘inhuman’.Speaking to reporters outside Kanimozhi’s CIT Colony residence on his return from Delhi on Wednesday evenin­g, Karunanidhi reprised his stand on the 2G scam that it was a media creation. He said the media had put out ‘false’ reports of Kanimozhi’s involvement in the scam and accused the CBI of basing its case on the­se ‘false’ reports and trying to prove them.Karunanidhi complained that Kanimozhi was uncomfortable in jail and had develo­ped blisters, rashes and boils. “Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar have been jailed inhumanly. She is suffering in the jail and so is Sharad. People like you who ask these questions could also be responsible for her state,” he told reporters.Karunanidhi also clarified that there were no problems between the DMK and the Congress. He staved off any reading between the lines over his visit to Delhi, saying that he had met senior Congress leader Vayalar Ravi only as a friend and had met no other leader of the party.Repeating words from his letter on the Lokpal Bill published recently in the DMK mouthpiece Murasoli, Karunanidhi said his government had enacted a strong anti-graft legislation in 1972 and had included the Chief Minister in its ambit, adding that it was repealed when MGR became the Chief Minister.As for his stand on bringin­g the Prime Minister under Lo­kpal purview, he said, “I leave it to your interpretation.”
