COIMBATORE: A special police team arrested a notorious rowdy M Raja alias ‘Kattai’ Raja (29), in Tiruvarur district on Sunday night for the brutal daylight murder that shocked the city three days ago.Somasundaram (42), who had connections with several gangsters in the State, was chased and hacked to death in public at SIHS Colony near Ondipudur on Thursday.Appreciating the special team that cracked the case within three days and arresting the culprits, city police commissioner Amaresh Pujari said ‘Ceylon’ Mohan, with whom Somasundaram was staying here, had masterminded the murder and approached ‘Kattai’ Raja. The police have also arrested Senthil, an accomplice of Raja and are looking out for three more persons.Five months ago, Somasundaram came to Coimbatore from Chennai and stayed with Mohan, to urge him return his debt. “A few days ago, the duo had a heated argument and Somasundaram threaten him to return the money immediately. About 15 days ago, Mohan left the house saying that he is going to arrange for the cash,” Pujari said.The police said Mohan then hired Raja to murder Somasundaram. Police said that Raja has 12 cases against him in various districts including eight murders, four robbery cases and 10 warrants are pending against him on various criminal cases. Pujari said the police team had only used ‘minimal force’ while arresting the duo.
