KOCHI: Central Lalit Kala Akademi chairman Balan Nambiar has rejected an offer of trusteeship with the Kochi Biennale Foundation. He sent a letter to the foundation’s artistic director Bose Krishnamachari and director of programmes Riyas Komu, informing them that he had decided not to accept the invitation.“The invitation reached me on February 18, when I returned from Delhi. And the message rejecting the offer was sent to them on Monday,” Nambiar said.Expressing his disinterest, Nambiar said: “After becoming the chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi, I do not want any one to use my name or my position in any way.”He added that he might have accepted the invitation if it was given a year earlier. When contacted, Komu said that Nambiar might have taken the decision as he was now holding the post of the chairman. “We talked with Nambiar a few days ago about including him in the trust. But he asked us to wait, as he was waiting for some other post,” Komu said.Meanwhile, some artists stated that the news that Nambiar had already become a trust member of the foundation was misleading. This prompted him to make a clarification.
