CHENNAI: "Sattam Oru Eruttarai, Adhil Vakkilin Vadham Oru Vilakkau." This saying of former Chief Minister C N Annadurai that law is a dark room where the advocate's argument is a lamp came true on Thursday when the Madras High Court suffered unprecedented and frequent power cuts.
As the generator in the HC also failed to function, advocates were seen arguing their cases to judges who listening to them in darkness. The outages outraged the litigant public and the advocates.The judges were visibly irked. "I have been practising in the Madras HC nearly for four decades and I have never seen the courts plunged into darkness like this," a senior advocate told Express.

AdvocateGeneral A Navaneethakrishnan apologised to Chief Justice M Y Eqbal for the frequent and long outages. The grid disturbance in North Chennai had paralysed power supply, he explained and added that the government was taking adequate and effective steps to improve power supply. But, why didn't the TNEB immediately restore power after the tripping in generating units and transmission network that disrupted the grid?
