KOCHI: Police arrested a person in connection with the sexual harassment of a minor girl, who had been abused for the last seven years, on Saturday night. The person identified as Sashi, 48, hailing from Palluruthy, was arrested following a tip-off by the local residents. “We have been closely monitoring the man as his actions were under suspicion. Before arresting the man, we had called up the parents of the girl and questioned them on Friday. Based on the questioning we took Sashi into custody,” Sub-Inspector Rajesh said. Police said Sashi, who was the neighbour of the 12-year-old girl had been sexually harassing her from the age of four. “The school authorities had informed the parents last year after they had noticed awkwardness in the girl’s character. She had admitted before the school authorities that she was being sexually harassed by her neighbour,” Rajesh said.Police said the parents were asked to file a complaint. But the parents fearing the girls’ future will be affected kept it a secret.The police presented Sashi before the Ernakulam First Class Magistrate and was remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
