KOCHI: The police is all set to crack down several quacks who are practicing in hospitals without proper certificates. The police got the information about some quacks after questioning Rajasree who was arrested from a private hospital for practising without qualification.“On interrogating the quack doctor, we got to know that there are more quacks working in private hospitals. We have given a notice to the authorities of a private hospital to submit medical degree certificates of all their doctors. If they don’t submit the certificates within a week’s time, then we will also take them into custody,” sources in the police said. When the police interrogated Rajasree of Malapuram, she confirmed that there are five more doctors in the hospital who do not have medical qualification. “We have to confirm whether the named doctors are quacks. The information received from the initial investigation revealed that some doctors studied in China and some of them have not even completed the medical course. If the management has knowingly appointed these quack doctors, then action would be taken against the hospital management as well,” a police official said.Another highly placed police officer said the demand for the doctors are very high and quacks are finding it to be a favourable time. “There is a dearth of qualified doctors in the hospitals, therefore, the private hospitals recruiting people without checking their educational certificate,” a police officer said.Indian Medical Association former president Dr S Sachidananda Kamath said that when a doctor is recruited, the management should ask for their registration certificate. “IMA has registered around 60-70 per cent of medical practitioners in the state. The re-registration of the medical practitioners would help in curbing quacks,” Dr S Sachidananda Kamath said.
