VISAKHAPATNAM: The Navy saved the lives of 11 fishermen in a search and rescue operation in the sea on Thursday.
Visakhapatnam coast is on high alert in view of the severe cyclonic storm Thane. Though fishermen were advised against going out for fishing, a few ventured into the sea and are missing for the past 48 hours.The Indian Navy swung into action and a Dernier flight was launched early on Thursday morning to locate the boats and missing fishermen. Despite the rough weather and poor visibility, a capsized boat was located off Narsapur, around 220 km from Visakhapatnam.

Upon ascertaining the location of the boat, a helicopter from INS Dega took off immediately and rescued six survivors. In a similar operation, five fishermen in a trawler were also rescued.
