New Delhi: The fourth seeded doubles pair of Indian Leander Paes and Czech Republic's Martin Damm faltered in the semi-final of the Medibank International tennis tournament in Sydey on Friday.
2006 US Open champions Paes and Damm lost 2-6, 3-6 to the long-standing pair of Bahamas' Mark Knowles and Canadian Daniel Nestor in the season-opening championship, which also acts as a lead-up to the Australian Open starting on Monday.
Mahesh Bhupathi, Paes' estranged partner had already bowed out of the same tournament, teaming up with Fabrice Santoro of France.
India's other hope, Sania Mirza, lost in the semi-final of the Moorilla International in Hobart on Thursday in the women's singles event, while she went down in the women's doubles in the quarter final, pairing up with Australian Alicia Molik.
Knowles and Nestor will contest in the final against third seeded pair of Aussie Paul Hanley and Zimbabwean Kevin Ulyett. They beat Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski of Poland 6-2, 7-6 (7/4).
