Pawar detoxification continues in BCCI
After sacking three national selectors, the BCCI cancels the tenders for television rights and calls for new tenders.

New Delhi: The accession of Sharad Pawar to the throne of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has resulted in a massive overhaul in the way the board functions.

After sacking three national selectors considered close to the Jagmohan dalmiya faction, Pawar is out to cleanse other divisions of the board.

On Thursday the BCCI cancelled the ongoing tenders for television rights and decided to issue fresh ones for cricket matches to be played in India for the next four years.

The decision to cancel the previous tenders for television rights was taken by the Marketing Committee of the board, which met in New Delhi on Thursday and new tenders will be issued after the Supreme Court verdict on the cases is known on December 12.

The BCCI also decided to invite tenders for the team sponsorship and these will be opened on the Decenber 19 while the decision should be known a day later.

"The committee decided to cancel the current tender and issue a new one with fresh terms. The BCCI is looking at generating more revenues and has identified the areas," BCCI Vice President Lalit Modi said.

Modi said that the BCCI was also contemplating issuing a separate tender for ICC organised tournaments like the Champions Trophy.

As part of its efforts to generate more revenues, the Board will also have a team kit sponsor and bidding will be open to all manufacturers.

He said the BCCI will honour the cabinet's decision of sharing live feeds with Doordarshan which will continue to have terrestrial rights for tournaments held in India. Satellite and cable rights and DTH will be sold separately.

According to some sources who spoke to IBN eight companies have been shortlisted for the Indian team's sponsorship.

These are Tata, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises, Bharti, Videocon, Hutch, IMG and Hero Honda.

Current sponsors Sahara, whose deal expires at the end of the India Sri Lanka Test series are also expected to bid.

Sahara's deal was worth Rs 75 crores, this time the BCCI expects bids anywhere between Rs 175 crores to Rs 200 crores for a three year deal.
