CHENNAI: Residents of over a dozen areas including Anna Nagar, Pulianthope, Otteri and Tondiarpet, resorted to road blockade on Thursday night protesting the daylong power outage, which resulted in traffic congestion in several places.
Over 200 irate residents of Anna Nagar 2nd Avenue gathered at the Blue Star junction by 7 pm since there was no power since morning. As time went by, the crowd swelled and protestors parked their vehicles haphazardly on the road sides leading to traffic bottlenecks."When we approached the EB officials we were told that it might take longer for the power supply to resume. We had no other go but to squat on the road," said Raj, a business owner.

P Paul Raj Pandian, a resident of ESI Staff Quarters on Cooks Road in Otteri, said that about 600 families in the complex had to suffer as power was snapped as early as 11 am. "Now, we have come to the road to protest and draw the attention of the authorities."

Officials said power supply would be fully restored by midnight.
