Petroleum, gas workers federation to stage protest march

The Kerala Petroleum and Gas Workers Federation will conduct a protest march to the state office of the IOC on October 10. The workers urged the company to take sufficient safety measures for the welfare of the public.

“In spite of the promises made by the company, there are gaping holes in security, both inside and outside. This is putting so many lives at peril,” said T Reghuravan, general secretary of the federation.

He added that the IOC was trying to wind up the LPG Terminal project at Puthuvype to support the bullet tanker lorry owners in the state. “If the project becomes a reality, it will pave way to the efficient and safe delivery of products through gas lines and pipes. However, the authorities are striving to wind up the project to favour the bullet lorry owners,” he alleged and added that many offices have already been shifted. The union members also alleged that the gas agencies were also flouting all the rules.  The agencies are supposed to give the cylinders at subsidised rates and they are not pasting the prices at the notice boards as per the rules,” he added.

CITU state secretary K Chandran Pillai, N Padmalochanan and K J Jacob and will be  present at the march, which will be inaugurated by M V Govindan.
