BANGALORE: The first step in the centralised admission process for post-graduate courses at Bangalore University (BU) for the academic year 2011-12 began last week with the scrutiny of application forms at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium. Students are allowed to apply till August 7 without penalty and until August 8 with penalty. Only after the scrutiny of documents is complete can the University disclose the number of applicants, chairman for admissions, Bangalore University Professor Dr K Eresi said. Since last week, post-graduates with the help of a team of professors are guiding the students with the admission process. This too is being done in a centralised manner to avert any problematic claims at the counselling stage of admissions. Following complaints about students not being allotted the courses they had requested for, cameras were installed in the counselling centre last year. Officers said that this year they had received requests to complete the admission process early in order to start classes with the II year post-graduate students. “We are trying our best to complete the process within this month so that classes for the I year PG students can begin along with the II year students. The classes for II PG students on University campus would begin on August 25,” said Professor Eresi. Several thousands are expected to apply for the 6,200 seats available at the University, its affiliated colleges and at the PG Centre at Kolar. All affiliated colleges offer 50 percent of its seats for the counselling.
