BANGALORE: The Foundation for Art and Culture for deaf honoured physically challenged women in recognition of their achievements in various fields on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Ten women from various NGOs and self help groups were honoured for their contributions in the fields of art, computer training, rural social service, therapy and career counselling. BB Moin from the field of Art, a computer trainer Fousia, Adi Lakshmi, G Rani and R K Padmavathi in the field of Social Service, women who have been working with mentally challenged children - S Nagarathna and Kalavathi, Nirmala P, who works as a therapist and career counsellor, sportsperson M Nirmala and Suma, who trains the blind in a special Java software designed for them were awarded. Handing over the honours, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Kumar said that this was by far the best honour for International Women’s Day. “I have been to many women centric events and by far this has been the best honour for women who have achieved so much in various fields,” he further added.The artists who are part of the foundation further hosted an exhibition-cum-sale of their art work that was further applauded by the audiences who were present at the ceremony.
