NAGERCOIL: People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) has threatened to file a case against Central Minister Narayanasamy if he continued to vulgarise its protest.Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a seminar organized by the National Alliance of Anti Nuclear Movements in Nagercoil on Saturday, PMANE coordinator S P Udayakumar, said that the authorities had already made underground pipelines from Valliyaru river in Kanyakumari district till the bordering areas of Tirunelveli district. “They are saying those pipelines are for some other combined drinking water projects which are going to be executed in Kumari district. But their aim is to take water from the district for and use it as an alternative source at the KKNPP site, if the desalination plants that have been set up fails,” said Udayakumar. Earlier, the Atomic Department officials said that they were not going to use the water from Pechiparai reservoir for Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project, despite what former President Abdul Kalam claimed. “This is a usual tactic of the Atomic Energy Department, they always say bits and pieces but not anything straight about what they are going to do,” the PMANE Coordinator said“Therefore, the Department should come with a clear stand about taking water from Pechiparai reservoir rather than confusing the people of Kumari,” Udayakumar said.Claiming that the Union government was portraying them as ‘anti-nationals’, he said that Union minister Narayanasamy was charging them by saying that they were getting money from foreign nations. “We are getting money from poor fishermen, Dalit workers and farmers and are spending this in the Gandhian way. If Central Minister Narayanasamy continues to vulgarise our protest in this way, we will file cases against him,” he said.Earlier, around 150 members, including activists, experts and advisers of National Alliance of Anti Nuclear Movement, conducted a seminar at Nagercoil and cleared the doubts regarding Nuclear energy and KKNPP project raised by the participants in a scientific manner.
