THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Though the medical pact inked between the State Government and Kerala Private Medical Colleges association has received a severe jolt with the latter demanding 20 percent privilege seats in the management quota, the association is expecting no major hassles to the pact.  Instead, both parties have pinned hopes on talks which would likely take place in a week. The Association is hoping that the government would agree to their demand which they would reiterate at the meeting. “It is one clause that has been approved by the Kerala Legislative Assembly in the Kerala Professional Colleges Act 2006. It was discussed during the talks on seat-fee structure. But we do not think it will be dragged into legal tangles because we have had received positive response from the government so far and we hope it will continue,” said a representative of the Kerala Private Medical Colleges Management Association.  However, government sources said that the agreement had not mentioned the privilege seats and so the association’s withdrawal could drag them into legal disputes.   Meanwhile, the Association has made it clear that the entrance examination which will be held on May 31 to the professional medical colleges under the strict monitoring of the P A Mohammed committee will not be affected by their demand. The association knows that it has time till the results are out and allotment begins, which is probably why they do not mean to pressurise the government but wait till the election brouhaha gets over for any settlement in the matter.
