CHENNAI: Forest officials have rescued a 6.5 feet-long rat snake from a house in Valsaravakkam and an 2-feet-long Indian sand boa from Mangadu. Officials said  they received a call from Selvi of Senthil Nagar, Valsarvakkam on Sunday saying that a snake was found inside the bathroom of her house. Soon, a team of officials headed to her house and rescued the snake.The rat snake is a non-poisonous species, but it is a protected animal under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.“It is natural for people to get scared when they see a snake in their house. These snakes are usually large, fast moving and feed on rats,” said S Davidraj,  Forest Range Officer, Velachery.The snake will be kept at the Forest Range Office at Velachery for a couple of days and would be released in the forest, officials said.The Indian sand boa was caught near a house in Mangadu, the officials said. Kozhandhaivelu of Mangalapuram,  Mangadu called up the officials and said that he saw a snake next to his house. “He himself caught the snake and kept it in a gunny bag. It weighed 2.5 kilos and was two feet in length,” the officials added.Indian sand boas are found in dry and flat clay soil areas and can grow up to four feet.
