Out of the 1,800 candidates slated to participate in the COMEDK seat selection counselling on the first day held here on Saturday, 640 candidates attended and chose 596 medical seats and two dental seats out of 695 medical and 748 dental seats available on the first day.
At the end of the counseling, 80 seats for Christian minority and 19 seats for Tulu minority remained vacant. According to COMEDK, the remaining 99 seats will be available for candidates of Karnataka only.
Meanwhile, of the fifteen students who were served showcause notices by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges-Karnataka (COMEDK) for alleged involvement in fraudulent activities, one student turned up for the seat selection process.
Executive director of COMEDK A S Srikanth said that the candidate was not permitted to select any seat and instead a showcause notice was served. Criminal action has been initiated against the student, he added.
The seat selected by him in COMEDK UGET-2011 counselling process has been cancelled, he said.
