An international conference on Security of Internet of Things (SecurIT 2012,) will be held on the Amritapuri Campus, Kollam, from August 17 to 19.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) secretary V K Saraswat will inaugurate the conference being organised by Amrita University.

J Satyanarayanan, secretary, Department of Information Technology (DIT) will attend.

Online interactions with Robert Elliot Bob Kahn, the father of Internet and Mervin Minsky, the father of Artificial Intelligence, have also been scheduled, which will be the major attraction of the conference, said Krishnashree Achuthan, director, Amrita TIFAC (Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council) CORE in Cyber Security.

The recipient of many awards, including the Turing Award, Robert Kahn was the designer of network protocols for the Arpanet project. He worked alongside Vint Cerf to create the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP).

The TCP/IP protocols were used together to transmit information on the Internet and became the basis for today’s Internet. Mervin Minsky designed and built early visual scanners and made key contributions to the development of robotics and computer-aided learning technologies.

He also contributed to the development of Logic-Oriented Graphic-Oriented (LOGO) language. Others to attend the conference include Esther Dyson, founder of iCANN, Vijay Bhatkar, founding director of CDAC and chairman of IIT Delhi, Andrew Tanenbaum, author of basic book on Operating Systems and Ross Anderson, well-known crypto expert.

SecureIT aims at bringing together researchers, practitioners, students and ‘ethical hackers’ around the globe for disseminating latest advances in security, best practices in cloud computing, mobile networks and cyber-physical control systems.

The conference will offer different formats to encourage dialogue and participation ranging from technical presentations, posters, hands-on workshops and tutorials on various key subjects of interest.
