BANGALORE: Taking note of inadequate security measures to face any terrorist threat at the City Civil Court Complex, Five-Year Law Course Advocates Association (FYLCAA) representatives have written a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram seeking immediate action. The City Civil Court is hearing several high profile cases pertaining to former chief ministers, ministers and several other VVIPs. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha had even cited lack of security on court premises to be excused from attending a hearing. Supreme Court directed her to attend the court on October 20 even while asking the court to ensure tight security. Yet, no arrangements have been made till now.Immediately after the Delhi High Court blast, the State Government took measures to protect the Karnataka High court Complex. It installed closed circuit television cameras (CCTv), metal detector, hand held metal detector, security X-ray machine and luggage screening system at all entry points on the court premises. Private vehicles were barred from entering the premises and ID cards were made mandatory. Yet, the Civil Court Complex was completely ignored. “There are no security personnel to check vehicles entering the premises. At least 10,000 people could be found here even at 10 in the morning. In addition, the Metro underground work and the nearby traffic signal add to the problem. Any untoward incident will lead to heavy causalities,” states the letter signed by S Umesh, President of FYLCAA. The complex has over 100 court halls where both civil and criminal cases of Bangalore Rural and Urban districts are adjudicated. The banks, canteen and hawkers add to attracting more floating population. The complex premises also has a public parking place. The Association, in its letter, has highlighted these aspects while making some suggestions to control the crowd and traffic flow in the area. The letter insists security measures which have been taken in the High court should be followed in the City Civil Court complex. A copy of the letter has been sent to leaders of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, CM D V Sadananda Gowda and Home Minister R Ashok.
