PALAKKAD: The march by SFI activists to the collectorate to protest against police firing in Kozhikode turned violent.The protestors who reached the barricade, pelted stones at the police. The police had to resort to caning. However, the protestors pelted stones from all sides and five police personnel including the North circle inspector K M Biju and five students were injured. The wind shields of two private cars parked nearby were also broken. And the police had to use teargas shells to disburse the crowd. The injured were treated at the District hospital and later discharged.Subsequently, the president of the district panchayat T N Kandamuthan and CPM leader M Narayanan calmed the protestors and brought the situation under control.However, later when a teargas went off near the place were the CPM leaders were standing, they alleged that it was willfully done by the police and T N Kandamuthan and member of the district panchayat Subash Chandra Bose began a sit in before the Collectorate.
