Mumbai: Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar on Sunday met trustees of the Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra and activists to find a solution for the impasse over women's entry in the shrine.
Ravishankar has reiterated his stand that women should be allowed inside temple. But there is still no consensus between activists and temple trustees over the issue. Activist Trupti Desai of the Bhumata Brigade said, "We don't agree with the current proposal as it's not sufficient."
Desai's outfit had led a high-voltage march to the temple in Ahmednagar district on Republic Day but it was halted by authorities at the Supa village, about 70 km from the temple town.
The agitation has been going on demanding an end to a centuries-old ban on female devotees into the sanctum of the temple. Women members and supporters of the Bhumata Brigade arrived from Pune on January 29 in six buses with an aim to enter the temple's sanctorum where the idol of Lord Shani is placed on an open-air platform.
