Sikkim CM announces compensation for victims
Rs 5 lakh to the family of those died in the earthquake and Rs 50,000 for injured in the disaster.

New Delhi: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Tuesday announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of those died in the earthquake and Rs 50,000 for injured in the disaster.

He also thanked central government for extending all support and help. "Nine villages with 10 thousand villagers completely cut off from the mainstream," he said.

The road from Mangan to district headquarter is now open, sources said. Many roads in the quake-hit areas are still completely blocked and the Army says they'll take 20-30 days to clear it.

Meanwhile, two army jawans were killed during rescue efforts after they were hit by boulders.

The Sikkim earthquake has left more than 80 people dead, 53 of them in Sikkim alone.

More than 1 lakh houses have been damaged and 15,000 houses collapsed due to the 6.8 magnitude quake which resulted in casualties in West Bengal, Bihar, Nepal and Tibet too.
