Squad for demolition of illegal buildings

HYDERABAD: With an aim to take up the drive against unauthorised constructions effectively, an enforcement squad was set up by the GHMC on Saturday.Officials said the decision to constitute an enforcement squad was taken as the drive against illegal constructions had not been satisfactory, as there was no proper monitoring on the performance of concerned circle and zonal offices. The enforcement squad will help to take necessary and quick action on unauthorised constructions and deviations to approved plans, officials said.Bhagyawathi, city planner, GHMC will be overall in-charge who will monitor and provide the necessary demolition squad. Squad-I will be headed by Jalender Reddy, assistant city planner, GHMC and take care of demolition squad for East, North and West zones, while Squad- II will consist of Mohd Iqbal, town planning supervisor and take care of demolition squads for South and Central zones.  About 10 Vigilance police constables would be deployed as and when required along with two DCM vans with 10 labourers each and demolition equipment for the enforcement squad. The enforcement squad will visit sites wherever complaints are received take up demolition in coordination with concerned ACPs and DCs of the circles. The demolition squad has been asked to inspect Gurukul Ghatkesar lands three days in a week and detect unauthorised constructions and intimate it to city planners.
