Several students who got admission to some private engineering colleges in 2012-13 have approached the High Court, challenging the government’s decision to issue GO 66 amending the rules of admission to Category-B seats (management quota).
N Kumar Jha and six other students of the city, who have been granted admission to Geethanjali College of Engineering in Ranga Reddy district, in their petition requested the court to declare the rules made in GO 66 dated September 3, 2012 and consequent notification issued by the AP State Council for Higher Education as illegal and arbitrary.
They wanted the court to declare the amended rules be given effect to prospectively and not for the admissions already made for 2012-13. They requested the court to direct the authorities concerned not to disturb the admissions already made for the present academic year as they were done in accordance with the rules framed by the government.
P.Sai Siddharth and seven other students of the city also filed a petition in the court challenging GO 66. On Tuesday St.Mary’s College of Engineering for Women in Guntur district filed a petition in the High Court challenging GO 67, dated September 3, issued by the government on admissions to category ‘B’ seats (i.e.30 percent seats under management quota).
The petitioner requested the court to suspend operation of the GO and direct the government not to interfere with the fundamental right of private un-aided professional colleges. Under this right, institutions can allot Category-B seats to students of their choice.
