ALUVA: It’s been only six months since it was inaugurated and Suchitwa Bodhana Yajnam (SBY)has already attracted quite a lot of people here. SBY is a 15-year-long project conceived by Renewable Energy Centre, Mithradham functioning at Chunangamveli, Aluva. It is the first fully solar educational institution in India for protection of environment and promotion of non-polluting renewable energy sources. It was inaugurated on the New Year Day by renowned artist and social thinker M V Devan at Advaithasramam in Aluva. Many individuals, institutions and organisations volunteer to become partners in this noble venture. The people participating in this venture have realised the importance of keeping their houses, work place and surroundings clean and environment friendly. They have understood that many diseases are caused due to polluted air, water, food, bacteria and viruses breeding in dirty surroundings. Rajagiri outreach, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery, which has successfully implemented various environmental projects of the government and private organisations coordinate the activities of SBY. The finance of the project is managed by Sahrudaya Services and Charities, Kalamassery, which is a charitable trust. “If all institutions, organisations and interested individuals work sincerely to keep their surroundings clean, the whole district will be clean in a few years time improving the quality to our own life,” said Fr. Dr. George Peter Pittappillil, Voluntary Convenor of SBY.He along with members of Aluva Paristhithi Sangham, Muslim Students Movement and Tharumithra undertook a Padayathra through the district, 160 km on foot from Jan 1 to 15, conducting awareness programmes in 15 educational institutions and meeting students from nearly 50 schools and colleges. They have also met local government authorities at various places and discussed means to promote cleanliness in their area. The partners should act as motivators and facilitators of cleanliness in their locality, and cooperate with the local administration in their cleanliness effort. Partners should ensure the cooperation of every citizen and organise various programmes. If all had worked together, we could have enjoyed our short life on earth in a clean and environment- friendly surrounding before 15 years.
