SWC orders probe into nuns death

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Women’s Commission (SWC) has ordered a probe into the death of Sister Mary Ancy who was found dead in the water tank of the convent at Poonkulam on Thursday.The order was issued by Justice D Sreedevi, Chairperson of SWC, following a complaint filed by human rights activist Jomon Puthenpurackal with the Commission.  As part of the investigation, Justice Sreedevi and N Ramachandran, director and head of the investigation branch of SWC will visit the convent and collect evidence on August 22.In the complaint Jomon had raised suspicions over the alleged haste shown by the local police in concluding the death of the nun as a suicide. He had criticised the police team for arriving at a conclusion even without conducting a proper investigation into the death.Terming the police inference strange, he pointed out that there had been no way Sister Ancy could have lifted the immensely heavy concrete slabs and committed suicide given the fact that it required more than one person to remove the slab.
