People from the northeast, who had fled Hyderabad fearing attacks on them, have begun to return to the city, according to BJP state general secretary N Ramchandar Rao.
He claimed that this was due in part to a goodwill mission undertaken by the BJP to restore the confidence of the people that they would be safe in Andhra Pradesh.
The BJP national committee had sent a delegation to the northeastern states to reassure people who had abandoned their studies and employment in states like AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Ramachandar Rao, who was in the delegation, said the team toured Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur to explain to the people the measures taken by the central and state governments to provide security for people from the northeast.
Now that tney are returning, he said, state governments down south must protect the academic year of northeastern students and companies must restore jobs to workers from that region.
Ramachandra Rao said the BJP delegation interacted with all sections of people and found that there was discontent that Bangladeshi infiltrators were disturbing the social and economic balance in the northeast.
He said the infiltration issue would become as serious as the Kashmir issue in the years ahead.
He alleged that MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi was encouraging infiltrators from Myanmar to settle in the city
