CUTTACK: Justice AS Naidu Commission, inquiring into the police-magistrate (JMFC) scuffle in Rourkela in April last year, held its sitting here on Saturday. The Commission examined Subhasmita Satpathy, wife of Arun Kumar Patnaik, the then JMFC. She stated before the Commission that on March 2, 2011, she was engaged to Arun and the marriage solemnised on May 6. On April 2, at about 11.20 pm, while she was talking to Arun over phone, she heard someone misbehaving with him. Subsequently, she came to know that Arun had been taken to police station forcibly by the then IIC of Uditnagar, she deposed. Bijay Kumar Patnaik, paternal uncle of the then JMFC, was also examined on the day. During his deposition, he stated that he was in official quarters of his nephew on the said date. At about 11.30 pm, when his nephew was talking over phone in front of his residence, one person came there and the duo had a conversation. When he asked what the matter was, Arun asked him to go inside. However, he went somewhere and did not return till long. Subsequently he came to know that the person, who had a conversation with the then JMFC, was the IIC of Uditnagar and taken Arun to police station. The Commission has so far received 47 statements of affidavits and observed that the probe will be a public inquiry. Additional Government advocates Bikram Nayak and V Narsingh appeared for the State Government in the case.
