CHENNAI: A husband and wife were arrested on Sunday and booked under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Charging Exorbitant Act following a complaint lodged by a computer engineer at Villivakkam. In his complaint to the police commissioner, J Robert Fernando claimed that Pushpa and her husband Devaraj demanded an exorbitant interest of Rs 6 lakh for a loan of Rs 1 lakh. Besides, they came to his house on Sunday and threatened him with dire consequences. The complaint was directed to the Villivakkam police, who conducted an inquiry and found the allegations to be true. A case was registered against the couple in Kolathur police station.Women robbedA 59-year-old woman was robbed of her gold chain by bike-borne men at Kolathur on Monday. Rani, a resident of Baba Nagar, was walking along Third Street in the same locality, when two men on a bike snatched her eight-sovereign gold chain and escaped. She lodged a complaint at the Rajamangalam police station.
