Will Meet Her at First Chance After She Joins College: Hadiya's Husband
Hadiya's marriage to a Muslim man, Shafin Jahan, stirred up a hornet's nest after her father made allegations of 'love jihad' against her husband, who he claimed was a stooge of terrorist organisations.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday directed Hadiya alias Akhila, the 25-year-old Kerala resident, whose conversion to Islam and subsequent marriage had started the whole ‘love jihad’ debate, can return to Salem and resume her studies.

Hadiya's father claimed that her husband Shafin Jahan was a stooge of terrorist organisations.

Speaking exclusively to Tanushree Pandey of News18 after the Supreme Court order, Shafin Jahan said, "I'm very happy. My stand has been vindicated. She is free now."

In May, the Kerala High Court had annulled the marriage terming it as an instance of 'love jihad' and ordered her to return to her parents' house, following which the husband had approached the apex court.

The Supreme Court directed her to pursue her studies and said that she was free to meet anyone she wanted, in accordance with the hostel rules.

"I'll meet her at the first opportunity whenever she gets admission in her college," Shafin Jahan said.

He added, "Any person can profess any religion. I want to choose Hinduism, or Christianity or Islam. It's my choice. We should be given liberty to make our own choices, there should not be any problem."
