SABARIMALA: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday launched the zero-waste project at Sabarimala by inaugurating the cleaning programme at Pampa. Inaugurating the clean Sabarimala programme, launched by the district administration and voluntary organisations such as Mata Amaritanandayi Math, which deployed 2,000 volunteers for the five-day programme, the Chief Minister announced an annual allocation of Rs 5 crore for the programme. Of this, Rs 50 lakh would be used for the on-going cleaning programme. The balance would be used for long-termprojects, he said. As part of the Sabarimala cleaning programme, the government would provide Rs 20 lakh for Pathanamthitta municipality, Rs 10 lakh each for Pandalam, Perunad and Erumely grama panchayats. In addition, Rs 5 lakh each would be given to 12 grama panchayats for pilgrim facilities during the year, he said.
