Actress Soni Razdan remembered the tough times she and her husband Mahesh Bhatt faced when they were starting out. They lived in a small one-bedroom flat and struggled financially. Soni felt like a single parent to their daughters, Alia and Shaheen Bhatt, as Mahesh was busy with work. She recalled how Mahesh had to leave for work just three weeks after Shaheen was born.
In a chat with Alia for The Nod Mag, Soni talked about the time when Alia was a baby. She said that her husband, director Mahesh Bhatt, was always busy with work. She said, “That time I felt like a single parent. Mahesh was supportive, but he was knee-deep in work, shooting for three films a day. I remember Shaheen was just three weeks old when he went off to a shoot, and I was left literally holding a baby, who refused to sleep at night.” She added, “Back then we lived in a small one-bedroom flat. We didn’t have a lot of money, we were young, we were struggling to make it. But the children were brought up with a lot of love. We didn’t have smartphones—heck, Alia didn’t even have a playroom. But then, life was simpler.”
Soni said that her granddaughter Raha Kapoor has a privileged upbringing. Thanks to Alia’s status, Raha receives excellent care, nurses, and toys. She said, “Every parent hopes to raise their child well, wants their child to be a better version of them. Today, Raha has a lot more. Alia’s position allows to give her the very best—the best childcare, the best nurses, and the best toys. Alia knows her privilege and is grateful for it.”
Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt hosted a Mother’s Day dinner at her Mumbai home, with her husband Ranbir Kapoor, their mothers Neetu Kapoor and Soni Razdan, and her sister Shaheen Bhatt. Alia shared a glimpse of the white-themed dinner on Instagram, possibly revealing Ranbir’s look from the movie Ramayana.
