Ameesha Patel On Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai 2 With Hrithik Roshan: 'When BO is Ready For Rs 60 Cr Opening'

Ameesha Patel made her comeback to Bollywood after a very long time with Gadar 2. She reprised her role of Sakina from the original film and was paired opposite Sunny Deol once again. The actress who debuted opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai recently conducted an AMA where she answered if she’ll be reuniting with the Fighter actor anytime soon.

The actress hosted an Ask Me Anything session on X (formerly known as Twitter). During the session, she was asked, “When can we expect a film with you and Hrithik?” Ameesha Patel promptly responded, “Well, all I can say is with confidence. When the ticket counters are mentally prepared for 60 crore plus opening… Tab I guess. That’s Kaho Na Pyaar Hai 2 for you on screen that very day.”

It is no secret that Kareena was the first choice for 2001 film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. The actress was supposed to make her debut with the film opposite Hrithik Roshan. However, it was revealed that Kareena left the film and Ameesha Patel replaced her. Kareena eventually made her debut in JP Dutta’s Refugee with Abhishek Bachchan.

Speaking with Bollywood Bubble, Ameesha claimed that Kareena didn’t walk out but was removed from Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. “Actually, she didn’t back out. From what Rakesh ji told me, he asked her to leave the film because they were having differences. And Pinkie aunty (Rakesh’s wife), said that they were shocked because the set was ready, and a replacement Sonia had to be found in three days, and crores of rupees (had been spent) on that set,” Ameesha said.

“It was Hrithik’s debut and everyone was really stressed. Pinky aunty told me that the day Rakesh saw me at the wedding, he did not sleep all night. He was like ‘I got my Sonia, I got my Sonia, but I hope she says yes,’” she added. “Rakesh uncle always says, ‘This girl paid attention to everything I taught her on sets.’ He always praises me and says I was a blessing in disguise,” Ameesha said.

The success of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai transcended beyond just box office numbers. In 2002, the film earned a prestigious spot in the Guinness World Records for securing the most awards won by a feature film. It was reported to have received a total of 92 awards in various ceremonies and categories, solidifying its place as a true cinematic gem.
