James Gunn's upcoming Superman film will hit theatres in July 2025.

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Cinematic Universe (DCU) is set for a new Superman film starring David Corenswet. While the film’s shooting remains underway, a major update has come our way. According to Variety, the makers of the DCU film will pay a special tribute to the late actor Christopher Reeve, over four decades after he debuted in the iconic superhero franchise. The actor’s 32-year-old lookalike son, Will Reeve, will make a cameo in Gunn’s Superman. They recently shot Will’s sequence on the film’s Cleveland, Ohio, set, pictures of which are making the rounds on the internet.

Currently employed as a journalist and correspondent for ABC News, Will Reeve will portray a television reporter in the upcoming film, which is likely to be a cameo. After completing his scene, Will even “received a hug from director James Gunn and a round of applause from the crew and cast” on the set, states a local news report.

It is pertinent to note that Christopher Reeve has been a significant part of the Superman franchise, having played the titular role in four films. He made his debut in the 1978 film Superman: The Movie and later appeared in Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace between 1980 and 1987. However, his journey soon came to a stop after the actor fell off a horse during an equestrian competition and was left paralysed. Nine years after that, he passed away in 2004 at the age of 52. A documentary titled Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story chronicles his life and how the accident changed everything.
