Soori And Vijay Sethupathi's Viduthalai 2 To Release On This Date

Director Vetrimaaran received critical acclaim for his socio-political drama Viduthalai, starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles. The director is now gearing up for the release of Viduthalai Part 2. The highly anticipated sequel is slated to release on December 20, on the occasion of Christmas.

Actor Vijay announced the release date on his X handle. In the caption, he wrote, “Mark your calendars! Maverick director #VetriMaaran’s #ViduthalaiPart2 is coming to theatres on December 20, 2024.” The post garnered several likes and comments from the user on the social media handle.

The Tamil period crime thriller continues the story from Viduthalai Part 1. The film is directed and co-produced by Vetrimaaran. Following the success of Part 1 in 2023, the team has diligently worked on Part 2, with a few days of shooting remaining.

It is also said that a third party might be necessary to fully showcase the story. But there is no official confirmation that a third party has been made. Reportedly, the final shooting of the sequel is slated to commence in the first week of September.

Recently, makers unveiled the first-look posters of the Viduthalai Part 2. It is evident from the poster that the storyline will revolve around Vijay Sethupathi and Manju Warrier’s characters. The poster shows Vijay’s character standing in the field with his bicycle alongside. While Manju’s character, who is dressed in a green saree with a red blouse, smiles as she stands close to Vijay.

“Step into the world of #ViduthalaiPart2, where Vaathiyar’s love unfolds. Directed by the master #VetriMaaran. An Ilaiyaraaja musical,” the caption of the poster read. It also informed that the film is in the final stage of completion.

Vijay Sethupathi also unveiled another poster from the film on X. The poster features a bloodied Vijay screaming in the middle of the fields with a machete in his hand. In the caption, he wrote, “A new chapter begins with #ViduthalaiPart2. Directed by the visionary #VetriMaaran! First Look is Out.”

The film was supposed to be released only in one part but was divided into two parts in 2022 due to its length. Both parts were filmed back-to-back but the sequel still has some scenes left to be wrapped up.

The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon, Chethan, Tamizh, Bhavani Sre, Prakash Raj, and Manju Warrier, among others. It is produced by RS Infotainment, while the music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Velraj is handling the cinematography for the film and editing by Ramar. The sequel film is based on Jeyamohan’s short story, Thunaivan.
