Mamata to meet PM, to discuss West Bengal debt
The West Bengal Chief Minister is likely to discuss restructuring of over Rs 2 lakh crore debt that her state owes to the Centre

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday to discuss issues related to her state. Mamata is likely to discuss restructuring of over Rs 2 lakh crore debt that Bengal owes to the Centre.

Sources said that the Prime Minister and President Pranab Mukherjee had met to discuss a package for West Bengal and the latter had expressed his desire to support the state in repayment of loans.

Mamata was on Wednesday hosted a dinner at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Mamata went straight to the Rashtrapati Bhavan after attending the UPA Coordination Committee meeting which was attended by the Prime Minister, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and other key constituents of the government.

It was the first meeting between Mamata and Pranab since he was elected to the top constitutional post.

West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra had earlier said the state government has a debt burden of Rs 2,08,382.58 crore as on March 31, 2012. According to the details submitted by the Accountant General, the loan till February, 2012 was Rs 2,05,368.13 crore, Mitra had said.
